Private George Storey

Private George Storey. 7th/9th Battalion, Royal Scots. He was killed in action in Holland on 17th December 1944, aged 31. He had been born in Duns and was the nephew of Mrs Bain of 25 Market Square, Duns and the husband of Yolanda Jean Storey of Edinburgh. He was a noted footballer and had played for Duns F.C. and Cumledge Mill. He is buried in Brunssum War Cemetery, Holland where his Headstone is inscribed ” Sacred To The Memory Of My Beloved Brown Eyes. Semper Fidelis. Yola And Geo. JR “. At that time the Battalion was involved in “Operation Blackcock” which involved clearing up the last pockets of German resistance near Maastricht.
