Private Arthur Alexander Colvin, 1st/4th ( Border ) Battalion, Kings Own Scottish Borderers. He was killed in action in France, aged 21, on 28th August 1918 during the “Advance to Victory” and is buried in Wancourt British Cemetery, France He had been born in Duns, and was the son of John and Annie Colvin of South Street, Duns. He was a faithful member of the congregation of Christ Church, Duns. Before enlisting in November 1915 he had been employed at Duns Sawmill. He joined the Battalion in Egypt and saw action there and in Palestine before moving to France in April 1918. He served as a Battalion Lewis gunner and he fell in the fighting near the village of Henin where the Battalion was involved in mopping up operations by bombing dugouts and winkling out snipers in captured trenches. During this time casualties were 1 Officer and 6 Other Ranks killed. The photographs show Allied troops during the advance against the retreating German army in the final 100 days of the War.
