Trooper Andrew Mitchell

Trooper Andrew Tofts Mitchell, 44th ( 7th Battalion The Queens Royal West Kent Regiment ) Reconnaissance Corps, Royal Armoured Corps. He was killed in action in Italy on 3rd February 1944, aged 25. He had been born in Duns and was the son of James and Margaret Mitchell of Duns and is commemorated on the Cassino Memorial, Cassino, Italy. The Reconnaissance Corps used such vehicles as the Humber Armoured Car ( pictured below ), the Daimler Armoured Car or the Staghound.
