Sergeant David Taylor

Sergeant David Taylor, ” C ” Coy., 8th ( Service ) Battalion, Somerset Light Infantry. He was killed in action in Belgium on 21st March 1918, aged 29, on the first day of the German March Offensive ( Operation Michael ). He was the son of Mr and Mrs Taylor of Newham Hall, Chathill, Northumberland and is buried in Hooge Crater Cemetery, Hooge, Flanders, Belgium. Before enlisting he had worked as a shepherd for Mr Stanners of Ewart. He had arrived in France in September 1915 just in time to take part in the Battle of Loos where he was wounded.
