Private George Murray

Private George Murray, 19th ( Central Ontario ), Battalion, Canadian Infantry. He was killed in action in France on 28th August 1918, aged 34 during the ” Advance to Victory”. He had been born in Denholm in 1885 and was the son of the late Thomas and Isabella Murray of Baillieknowe, Kelso. He is  commemorated on the Vimy Memorial, France.  He had been employed as a ploughman at Caldonbrae, Kelso before emigrating to Canada in 1913. There he worked for the Canadian Pacific Railway in Ontario before he was drafted in January 1918 joining his Battalion in early August 1918. The photographs show the Allies advancing during the final 100 days of the War.
