Private Thomas Gallon

Private Thomas Gallon, 1st/7th ( Service ) Battalion, Seaforth Highlanders.  He was killed in action in France on 7th July 1916, aged 26, during the Battle of the Somme. He was the son of William and Mary Gallon of Crookham Eastfield, Cornhill-on-Tweed and is buried in Carnoy Military Cemetery, Somme, France. ( For fuller details see under Ford and Etal War Memorial ). His Headstone is inscribed ” There Is A Link Death Cannot Sever. Sweet Memories Of Him Will Last For Ever “. The first photos show Scots troops on the Somme and the colour image shows a part of the peaceful Somme landscape as it is today with ” no gas no barbed wire no guns firing now”.
