Second Lieutenant Norman Hunter

Second Lieutenant Norman Archbold Hunter, 26th Battalion ( 3rd Tyneside Irish ) Northumberland Fusiliers. He was killed in action during the Battle of Third Ypres on 3rd September 1917 aged 22.He was the son of Andrew and Rachel Hunter of Milfield, Wooler and is buried in Hargicourt British Cemetery, Flanders where his Headstone is inscribed ” Faithful Unto Death”. He fell in action in a trench raid on “Triangle ” trench when the raiders also lost Second Lieutenant H.P. Dixon and 4 Other Ranks killed, 6 wounded and 3 missing. The photographs show the desolation of the Flanders battlefields where the incessant shelling had destroyed the drainage system. His Headstone is inscribed ” Faithful Unto Death “.
