Bombardier John Ainslie

Bombardier John Ainslie, 128th Heavy Siege Battery, Royal Garrison Artillery. He was killed in action in Flanders on 26th June 1917 aged 30. He was the son of the late William and Elizabeth Ainslie of Cornhill-on-Tweed and is buried in Dickebusch New Military Cemetery Extension, Ypres. His wife was Catherine Ainslie ( nee Burney )  of 5 Birch Street, Walker, Newcastle-Upon -Tyne. He had lived at Branxton Buildings, Branxton and before the War he had been employed as a general labourer. The photo shows a 9.2 Howitzer used by the Heavy Siege Batteries currently on display in the Imperial War Museum.
