Private Robert Douglas

Private Robert Douglas, 9th ( Service ) Battalion, Seaforth Highlanders. He was killed in action in France on 24th March 1918, aged 38, during the German Spring Offensive ( Operation Michael ) and is commemorated on the Pozieres Memorial, Pozieres, France. He had been born in Saline, Fife and was the son of the late Robert and Catherine Douglas of East Lodge, Crailing. Before enlisting he had been living in Hawick and was employed as a joiner in the Town. He had originally enlisted in the Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders before being posted to the Seaforths. His Battalion was the Pioneer Battalion for the 9th ( Scottish ) Division. He was the Great Uncle of David Douglas of Eyemouth and who is currently Chairman of Coldstream Burns Club.
