Private James H. Piercy, 7th ( Service ) Battalion, East Yorkshire Regiment. He was killed in action in France on 5th May 1918 during the German Spring Offensives and is commemorated on the Pozieres Memorial, Pozieres, Somme, France. The photographs show Allied troops in rather makeshift defences preparing to resist the advancing Germans.
