Lance Corporal James Stevenson

Lance Corporal James Stevenson, Military Police Corps. He died on Service from influenza in France on 27th February 1919 aged 32 and is buried in Les Baraques Military Cemetery, Sangatte, France. He had been born in Glendale, Northumberland and was the son of the late Andrew and Margaret Stevenson of Wooler and the husband of Gladys Stevenson of 32 Duke Street, Coldstream. Prior to marriage she had lived in Surrey Hills, Melbourne, Australia.  His family had come to Coldstream in 1916 and he had worked as a grocer  until enlisting in the Northumberland Fusiliers. In March 1917 he transferred to the Military Police. His Headstone is inscribed ” At The Going Down Of The Sun And In The Morning We Will Remember”.
