Private Hugh Wood

Private Hugh Wood ,10th ( Service ) Battalion ,Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders. He was killed in action on 23rd August 1918, aged 21, during the “Advance To Victory” He had been born in Coldstream and was the son of  Jessie and the late Alexander Wood of 4 Market Street, Coldstream. Before enlisting in June 1916 he had been employed as a baker in Coldstream. He joined his Battalion in France in January 1917. He is commemorated on the Vis-en-Artois Memorial, Pas de Calais, France. The photographs show the the Allied troops pressing after the retreating German Army during the last 100 days of the War.
