Flying Officer George Cospatrick Douglas-Home

Flying Officer George Cospatrick Douglas-Home, Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve. He was killed in a flying accident in Canada on 14th June 1943. He was the son of Charles Archibald Cospatrick Douglas-Home K.T. 13th Earl of Home and Lillian, Countess of Home of the Hirsel, Coldstream. He is commemorated on the Ottowa Memorial, Canada. He was in a flight of three aircraft which left on a training mission and was never seen again. No trace of any of the aircraft were ever found. Before the War George was a noted photographer of birds many of which were to be found on the family estate at the Hirsel. He was flying a Handley Page Hampden from R.C.A.F. Patricia Bay, British Columbia when he went missing. It was assumed the aircraft had crashed into the Pacific Ocean. The panel is from the War Memorial in Ottawa.
