Private David Pearson

Private David Stirling Pearson, 1st Battalion, Cameron Highlanders. He was killed in France, aged 19, on 3rd September 1916 during the Battle of the Somme and is commemorated on the Thiepval Memorial, Somme, France. He was the son of Robert and the late Helen Pearson of 37 Duke Street, Coldstream. It seems he was placed in an orphanage at Aberlour, Banffshire and he enlisted in the 1st/4th Battalion in Kingussie before transferring to the 1st Battalion in summer of 1916 when the 1st/4th was disbanded. This was the family which produced the famous slaters” Dod the Cat” and his son the “Kitten”.  The photograph show Scottish troops on the Somme and the colour photo shows part of the peaceful rolling Somme landscape as it is today with “no gas, no barbed wire, no guns firing now”.
