Private William Dickson

Private William Dickson, 12th ( Service ) Battalion, Royal Scots . He was killed in action in France during the Battle of Arras on 10th May 1917, aged 19. He  was the son of William and Ellen Dickson of 3 Harbour Terrace, St, Abbs and is buried in Faubourg D Amiens, Cemetery Arras. He was killed by a shell whilst he was in his billet with some comrades one of whom was killed and ten others wounded. (Shellfire was an ever present danger in and around the front lines ). He had enlisted in July 1916 and had only been in France for two months. Before enlisting he had worked on Northfield Farm, St Abbs. He had originally been with the Kings Own Scottish Borderers before being transferred in the Royal Scots. The photos show troops during the Battle.
