Private James Buglass

Private James Buglass, 6th ( Service ) Battalion, Kings Own Scottish Borderers. He died at Home on 28th July 1916, aged 23, of wounds received in action during the Battle of the Somme. He was the son of Helen and the late James Buglass of Coldingham and is buried in Coldingham Priory Churchyard. The Battalion had been in action at Bernafay Wood where they had to withstand a very severe artillery bombardment for several days where they suffered casualties of 16 Officers and 300 Other Ranks. The photos show Scottish troops on the Somme and the colour picture is of the peaceful scene today ” with no gas, no barbed wire, no guns firing now”
