Private James Fairbairn

Private James Leslie Duncan Fairbairn, 8th Battalion, Royal Scots. He was killed in action in Normandy, aged 23, on 26th June 1944. He had been born in Cockburnspath and was the son of the late Peter and Marion Fairbairn of Linhead, Cockburnspath. He is buried in St. Manvieu War Cemetery, Cheux, Normandy, France where his Headstone is inscribed ” A Beautiful Memory Of One So Dear We Cherish Still With Love Sincere”. He had lived with his aunt Mrs J. Preston of Pathhead, Cockburnspath and was employed at Linhead farm when he enlisted. He fell in the fighting to capture Caen during ” Operation Epsom”.
