Flying Officer William Dewar

Flying Officer William Ramsay Dewar, Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve. He died on Service on 28th September 1946 aged 23. He had been born in Chirnside and was the son of  Duncan and Maggie Bell of Chirnside and is buried in Chirnside Kirkyard. He was a member of 355 Squadron  which had flown the B24 Consolidated Liberator on bombing raids on Japanese targets in Burma and was based in R.A.F. Salbani, Bengal, India. He had spent some time as a flying instructor  but became ill and was flown to hospital in Northallerton where he died.
