Sergeant David Bisset

Sergeant/Air Gunner David Bisset, 50 Squadron, Royal Air Force. He was lost on an Air Operation on 4th May 1944 aged 22. He had been born in Dirlton, East Lothian and was the son of James and Jessie Bisset of Chirnside ( formerly of Bisset’s hotel, Gullane ) and is buried in Poivres Churchyard, France.  His Headstone is inscribed ” Until The Day Break And The Shadows Flee Away “. 50 Squadron flew Avro Lancasters from R.A.F. Skellingthorpe, Lincolnshire as part of the Bomber Offensive against Germany. During the War the Squadron flew 7,135 Sorties and lost 176 Aircraft. He was lost on a Operation to bomb the military camp at Mailly-Le-Camp. All the crew were lost.
