Lance Corporal William Paton

Lance Corporal William Paton, 1st/4th ( Territorial ) Battalion, Royal Scots Fusiliers. He was killed in action aged 21 on the 19th September 1918  during the taking of the village of Moeuvres by the 52nd (Lowland) Division during the ” Advance to Victory “.He is buried in Moeuvres  Communal Cemetery Extension. He had been born in Glanton, Northumberland and was the son of Mr. and Mrs William Paton of Holydean St. Boswells, Roxburghshire. His Headstone is inscribed ” Looking Unto Jesus The Author And Finisher Of Our Faith “.  He had been employed as a ploughman before enlisting in the K.O.S.B. and posted to the 7th/8th Battalion in France where he was then posted to the 1st Battalion R.S.F. He was wounded in March 1917 and after recovery he was posted to the 1st/4th R.S.F. in Egypt as part of the 52nd ( Lowland ) Division.  The Division moved to France in April 1918. The photographs show Allied troops advancing against the retreating Germans during the final 100 days of the War.
