Lieutenant Henry Minchin

Lieutenant Henry Desmond Penkivel Minchin, 6th Battalion, Kings Own Scottish Borderers. He was killed in action in Normandy on 1st July 1944, aged 21. He was the son of A.A.F. and Kathleen Winifred Minchin of Cruiksfield, Berwickshire and is buried in Bayeux War Cemetery, Normandy, France. He fell in the fierce fighting near Le Haut du Bosq where the Battalion repelled a strong German counter attack which was supported by tanks.  Total Battalion casualties were 140. His Headstone is inscribed ” And He Shall Be As The Light Of The Morning. 2 Samuel XX111 4″. The photos show the Battalion during the Normandy campaign.
