Private Robert Wilson

Private Robert Wilson, 2nd Dragoons ( Royal Scots Greys ). He had been a Regular Soldier and fell in action in Belgium on 1st November 1914, aged 27, during the Battle of First Ypres. He was the son of Thomas Wilson of 8 Upper Village, Hawick and is buried in Wytschaete Military Cemetery, Belgium. He had originally joined the Kings Own Scottish Borderers in 1904 but served only two years. In 1908 he enlisted in the Scots Greys and as a Reservist he was mobilised in August 1914.. Before re-enlisting he had worked as a groom for Sir Robert Usher of Wells. The photographs show British troops in defensive positions.
