Private George Jackson

Private George Jackson, 1st/4th ( Border ) Battalion, Kings Own Scottish Borderers. He died of disease ( syncope ) in Hospital on Malta on 29th July 1915, aged 22,  He was the son of the late George and Agnes Jackson of Billerwell, Bonchester and is buried in Pieta Military Cemetery, Malta. Before enlisting he had been employed as a ploughman at Billerwell, Bonchester Bridge. As part of the 52nd( Lowland ) Division the Battalion had landed at Gallipoli in May 1915 and had taken part in the “Charge” on the Turkish trenches at Achi Baba Nullah on the 12th of July which had cost the Battalion dearly.
