Sergeant William Woolley

Sergeant Pilot William Armstrong Woolley, Royal Air Force. He died in India on 24th March 1943, aged 24. He was the son of Mark and Margaret Woolley of Tweedmouth and is buried in Karachi War Cemetery, Pakistan. This was a cemetery for non operational casualties. He had been educated at the Berwickshire High School and had then studied at the Benmore Forestery school. Originally he had enlisted in the Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders before transferring into the Royal Engineers. He had been sent to France and was evacuated from Dunkirk on 31st May 1940. In July 1941 he transferred into the R.A.F.. He is also commemorated on the Memorial Tablet placed in the new High School, Duns.
