Private Thomas Poole

Private Thomas Luke Poole, 2nd Battalion, Scots Guards. He was a Regular Soldier and was  killed in action in France on 26th October 1914 during the Battle of First Ypres, aged 19. He was the son of John and E. Poole of 78 West Street, Leeds and is commemorated on the Menin Gate, Ypres, Flanders, Belgium. He fell in the very severe fighting near the village of Kruisecke after which the Battalion numbered 12 Officers and 460 Other Ranks. His brother Harry also fell ( see above ) The photographs show British troops in defensive positions during the Battle.
