Fusilier Thomas Johnston

Fusilier Thomas Purves Johnston, 9th Battalion, Royal Northumberland Fusiliers. He died in Thailand on 18th July 1943, aged 22, whilst working on the Burma-Siam Railway as a Prisoner of War of the Japanese. He was the son of Thomas and Helen Johnston of Berwick and is buried in Chungkai War Cemetery, Thailand. He had been captured with most of the rest of the Battalion at the fall of Singapore in February 1942. His Headstone is inscribed ” O For The Touch Of A Vanished Hand And The Sound Of A Voice That Is Still”.
