Third Officer Richard Hepburn

Third Officer Richard Harrison Hepburn, Merchant Navy. He was lost at sea aboard the S.S. ” Sinkiang ” on 6th April 1942 aged 21. He was the son of Mr and Mrs George Hepburn iof Tweedmouth and is commemorated on the Tower Hill Memorial, London. The ship was a passenger/cargo vessel of 2646 tons built by Scotts, Greenock in 1915 and owned by the China Navigation Co. Ltd. of London. She was en route from Colombo to Calcutta with a general cargo when she was bombed and sunk by Japanese aircraft. Three Officers and a number of Chinese seamen were lost.
