Warrant Officer Class 11 John Wilson

Warrant Officer Class 11, John Fraser Wilson, 13th Battalion, The King’s Regiment ( Liverpool ). He was killed in action in Burma on 30th April 1943, aged 29 and is commemorated on the Rangoon Memorial, Burma. He fell during the first Chindit operation ( Operation Loincloth) which began its offensive behind the lines against the Japanese in Burma on 13th February 1943. He was the son of John and Margaret Wilson and the husband of Rachel Wilson of Berwick. The Chindits were named after the ” Chinthe ” which were the mythical Burmese beasts which guarded Buddhist temples. The Chindit badge is a representation of one of these beasts.
