Sergeant John Cockburn

Sergeant John Simpson Cockburn, 9th ( Service ) Battalion, Kings Own Scottish Borderers. He died on Service at Home on 14th August 1916, aged 43, and is buried in Berwick-upon-Tweed Cemetery. He had been born in Berwick and was the son of James and Margaret Cockburn of Ness Street, Berwick and the husband of Elizabeth Elliot Cockburn of 9 Glebe Terrace, Selkirk. He was a Regular soldier having enlisted at the Depot in Berwick and had served abroad mainly in India. His brother Andrew also fell.
