Sergeant George Ludlow

Sergeant George Rowland Ludlow, ” B ” Coy., 2nd Battalion, Kings Own Scottish Borderers. He was killed in action in France on 13th October 1914, aged 26, during the so called ” Race to the Sea “. (This “Race” was in effect each side trying to outflank the other which would of course end when the sea was reached). He was the son of Benjamin and Elizabeth Ludlow of 370 Mosely Road, Birmingham and the husband of I. Turnbull ( formerly Ludlow of 42 Osborne Road, Tweedmouth. He was a Regular Soldier and is commemorated on the Le Touret Memorial, Pas de Calais, France. He had been born in Camberwell, Surrey and had enlisted as a Regular in Tottenham, London. He fell in the attack on the village of Cuinchy which was brought to a halt with little ground gained with 60 casualties in killed and wounded. The photographs show British troops during the Battle.
