Sergeant George Henry Evans

Sergeant George Henry Evans, 10th Battalion, Canadian Infantry. He was killed at Ploegstreet in Belgium on 20th November 1915, aged 25, whilst in the front line trench having previously been wounded in April of the same year. He was aged 25 and is buried in Maple Leaf Cemetery. He had emigrated to Canada in 1911 and worked successfully as a farmer. On the outbreak of War he had enlisted in the Calgary Horse before transferring to the 10th Battalion.  His younger brother James died one month earlier in France. They were the sons of James and Isabella Evans of 7 Ness Street, Berwick-on-Tweed. His Headstone is rather strangely Inscribed ” His Virtues Are Recorded Elsewhere”. The photos show troops in Belgium in late 1915.
