Second Lieutenant George Boyd

Second Lieutenant George Pratt Boyd, 1st Battalion, Irish Guards. He died in a Dressing Station at Bleuet Farm on 3rd September 1917, aged 33, of wounds sustained during the Battle of Third Ypres. He was the son of Andrew and Georgina  Boyd  and the husband of Mary Boyd of 1 Northumberland Avenue, Berwick. He is buried in Bleuet Farm Cemetery near Elverdinge, Flanders, Belgium. He had been a keen member of Berwick Amateur Rowing Club. The photographs show the state of the Flanders battlefield where the fragile drainage systems had been destroyed by the incessant shelling. His Headstone is inscribed ” He Died That We Might Live “.
