Sergeant Edward Moven/Morrin

Sergeant Edward Moven/Morrin, 6th ( Service ) Battalion, Kings Own Scottish Borderers. He was killed by shellfire in France on 8th July 1916 during the Battle of the Somme and is commemorated on the Thiepval Memorial, Somme, France. He was a resident of Berwick when he enlisted. The Battalion had helped to capture Bernafay Wood  on 3rd July. For the next five days the Germans bombarded the wood and heavy losses were incurred. For the 6 days spent in the wood 16 Officers and 300 Other Ranks became casualties without being able to hit back. The photographs show troops on the Somme.
