Private Robert Chapman

Private Robert Topping Chapman, 1st/4th ( Border ) Battalion, Kings Own Scottish Borderers. He was killed in action on 25th September 1918 during the ” Advance to Victory” and is buried in Queant Communal Cemetery, British Extension. He was the son of William and Isabella Chapman and had enlisted in the Village. He fell whilst the Battalion were holding trenches in the Moeuvres sector whilst awaiting the attack on the last of the German defences, the Hindenburg Line.  He had been born in Ayton and had enlisted there. The photos were taken during the final 100 days of the War.
