Private James Edgar

Private James Edgar, 1st/5th ( Dumfries and Galloway ) Battalion, Kings Own Scottish Borderers. He was killed in action on 24th November 1917 in Palestine, aged 25. He was the son of Andrew and Margaret Edgar of Red Hall, Ayton and is buried in Jerusalem War Cemetery. He fell in the attack on El Jib in the general Offensive towards Jerusalem  where the Battalion suffered  16 killed and 64 wounded. His father was the farmer at Red Hall and he had worked here before enlisting in June 1915. The photographs show Borderers in Palestine in 1917.
