Lance Corporal Archibald Stebbing

Lance Corporal Archibald Chisholm Stebbing, 4th Battalion, Kings Own Scottish Borderers. He was killed in action in Germany on 4th April 1945, aged 27. He was the son of John and Jane Stebbing of Ayton and is buried in Reichswald Forest War Cemetery, Germany. He fell in the fighting to capture the town of Ibbenburen which was defended by cadets from a nearby S.S. battle school. The Battalion suffered 51 casualties before the fanatical defenders accepted defeat and retired after suffering heavy casualties. The photos show the Borderers in Germany in 1945
