Lance Corporal John William Athey, Black Watch. ( The C.W.G.C. site shows his Unit as 1st/7th Battalion, Northumberland Fusiliers ). He was killed in France on 17th November 1917, aged 22. He was  son of Joseph and Margaret Ann Athey of 1 Station Cottages, Belford and is buried in Caterpillar Valley Cemetery, Longueval, Somme, France. He was killed by a shell whilst resting in his dugout. Before enlisting he had been employed as a forester at Haggerston.
