Private Robert Clazie

Private Robert Clazie, 206th Coy. Machine Gun Corps ( Infantry ). He died as a Prisoner of War on 7th December 1918 having been captured in March 1918 during the German Spring Offensive and is buried in Neuf-Brisach Communal Cemetery Extension, near Strasbourg, France. He is buried beside 35 of his comrades all of whom died as P.O.W.s. He had enlisted in Wooler into the 20th Battalion, ( 1st Tyneside Scottish ) Northumberland Fusiliers but was later transferred to the Machine Gun Corps. The M.G.C. used the Vickers Mk1 water cooled gun in both defensive and offensive roles and the photos show gunners in action.
