Work begins on Crimean War hero headstone in Lennel Kirkyard

The Society has commissioned the services of Robertson Memorials of Kelso to reinstate a headstone in the middle part of Lennel Kirkyard.

The headstone in question includes the name of James Charles Purves of Lennel Hill who fought in the Crimean War in 1855 and was wounded in the Charge of the Light Brigade. He later died of his wounds. The Society is eternally grateful to donors of funds to ensure that Purves is not forgotten. Robertsons were on site yesterday to commence the work which should be completed by the end of September. Well done Coldstream!
