Update on our year-old website

The History Society is very pleased with the progress of the website. Apparently, the website has been accessed 10,000 times and e-mail enquiries have been steady, complimentary and often asking for further research. Will Murray, Vice-President, has made significant progress with the Berwickshire War Memorials project, covering the World Wars and the Boer War.

We have asked the web developer to add another category called 'Other Conflicts' thus picking up on Coldstream people who were involved in other wars e.g. Crimean. Trevor Swan and Gerald Tait have taken the development of the Lennel Kirkyard headstone transcriptions to a new level. There has been considerable checking of the accuracy of the transcriptions and this work is ongoing. One benefit of this project is that headstones viewed in the Cargill/Prentice survey of 1970 were actually there, but in 2012 many are not now there. However, we have the text from each of these headstones. The transcriptions project is being widened to cover Cornhill, Birgham, Carham and Mindrum cemeteries.

This website is proving popular, there is no doubt, and officials met the web developer last Thursday to discuss expansion, other than the 'Other Conflicts' mentioned above. An audio facility is to be progressed, a section is to added to portray Coldstream people who made a difference and Provost Robert Carmichael would be one example. We are also going to make available PDF downloads of the Society's book, 'Second to None: A History of Coldstream'. We hope you enjoy accessing our website.
