Erected by THOMAS WIGHT in loving memory of his dear wife JESSIE SMALL who died at Oxenrig 27th July 1919 aged 71 years.
Also their dear son THOMAS who died at Coldstream Mains 2nd March 1901 aged 20 years.
Also the above THOMAS WIGHT who died at Coldstream 2nd March 1930 in his 82nd year.
Also their Daughter AGNES died at Kelso 29th November 1961.
Commentary
Thomas Wight was born at Mertoun, he was a Shepherd and lived at 3 Oxenrig. His wife Jessie was born at Mertoun too.
When Thomas Wight was born in 1849 in Scotland, his father, John, was 35 and his mother, Annie, was 35. He had four sons and six daughters with Jessie Small between 1873 and 1889. He died as a young father in 1881 in Coldstream, Berwickshire, at the age of 32.
When Jessie Small was born in Merton in 1849, her father, Alexander, was 34, and her mother, Margaret, was 36. She had four sons and six daughters with Thomas Wight between 1873 and 1889. She had two brothers. Her father was born in Melrose
