Transcription

(Headstone in poor condition) Erected in loving memory of JAMES YULE who died at Humebank 21st October 1889 aged 74 years. Also MARGARET his daughter who died at Coldstream 10th February 1879 aged 27 years. Interred in Cornhill. Also THOMAS his son who died at Hatchednize 9th Feb 1881 aged 36 years. Also of JANET MOOR wife of the above JAMES YULE who died at  Carolside 25th Jan 1901 aged 82 years. Also JESSIE his daughter who died at Edinburgh Jan 1906 aged 54 years.

Commentary

James Yule was born at Eccles and lived in Hatchednize Cottages and he was a Shepherd. His wife was also born at Eccles. 16.11.13 - A relative from Chester has provided the following information: "James I feel was a family man, as it says a Shepherd. He lived at Hachednize Cottages with his family. When his son Thomas, who lived in Glasgow lost his wife to TB, James found Thomas also had TB and so he brought him back to his small family home in Coldstream along with Thomas's children, James (who is buried with his parents) and Annie. Thomas died a few months later and his parents, Aunts and Uncles, brought Thomas and Annie up".
