In remembrance of WILLIAM TROTTER who died at Homstead the Hirsel 22nd April 1926 aged 77 years.

And of Wee WILLIE son of JOHN TROTTER who died 6th February 1899 aged 4 months.

And of ELIZABETH HOPE wife of the above WILLIAM TROTTER who died 17th May 1931 aged 85 years.

Also JOHN TROTTER who died 4th August 1954 aged 83 years.

Also his wife CATHERINE ANN PHILIP who died 22nd February 1955 aged 83 years.

And his sister in law ELIZABETH PHILIP who died 7th June 1962 aged 87 years.

Commentary

When William Trotter was born on 3 January 1850 in Greenlaw, Berwickshire, his father, John, was 41 and his mother, Isabella, was 39. He married Elizabeth Hope on 6 December 1870 in Roxborough, Roxburghshire. They had three children during their marriage. He had five brothers and six sisters.

When Elizabeth Hope was born in 1847, her father, Thomas, was 27, and her mother, Mary, was 26. She married William Trotter on 6 December 1870 in Roxborough, Roxburghshire. They had three children during their marriage. She died on 17 May 1931 in Coldstream, Berwickshire, at the age of 84.

 

This is Elizabeth Hope’s father’s history. When Thomas Hope was born on 27 February 1820 in Roxborough, Roxburghshire, his father, Thomas, was 25 and his mother, Elspeth, was 23. He married Mary Nichol on 24 May 1846. They had nine children in 18 years. He died on 14 August 1877 in his hometown at the age of 57.

When John Trotter was born on 17 June 1871 in Kelso, Roxburghshire, his father, William, was 21 and his mother, Elizabeth, was 23. He married Catherine Ann Philip on 1 October 1897. They had one child during their marriage. He died in 1958 at the age of 87.

When Catherine Ann Philip was born on 23 August 1871 in Edinburgh, Midlothian, her father, William, was 25, and her mother, Catherine, was 25. She married John Trotter on 1 October 1897. They had one child during their marriage. She died in 1958 at the age of 87.
