Erected in memory of JOHN GRAY feuar Lennel New Town who died 7 May 1870 aged 77 years. Also JANET DODDS his spouse who died 22 February 1852 aged 61 years.

Also JOHN their son who died in infancy,

Also their son JOHN who died in Canada West North America 22 January 1863 aged 43 years.

Also their daughter JANE wife of ROBERT DOUGLAS who died in Canada West North America on 26 July 1864 aged 34 years.

Also JAMES OSWALD GRAY son of JAMES GRAY who died 13 April 1855 aged 3 years.

Also JOHN GRAY Grocer’s Manager who died on 11 December 1882 aged 31 years. Also JAMES GRAY feuar (father of the above) who died 27 October 1883 aged 65 years. On the rear – Also SARAH wife of JAMES GRAY born 25 December 1813 who died 19/?/?, SARAH daughter of ?

Commentary

In 1841 John Gray (45) a Cotton  H L W lived in New Coldstream with Janet (50), James and John (both 20), Margaret (13), Cathrine (8) and Peter Gray (30).  Peter was also a Cotton H L W.  In 1861 John (68) is living in Coldstream New Town with Jon (40) and Catherine (28). 

His occupation is a Cotton and Woollen Weaver.
