Erected to the memory of MARGARET FORMAN spouse of WALTER YOUNG Teacher in Coldstream who died November 27 1824 aged 53 years. ROBr and AGNES YOUNG who died in infancy. Also the said WALTER YOUNG who died March 1 1827 aged 47 years. And ISABELLA FORMAN YOUNG his oldest daughter who died in Edinburgh on 16 September 1854 aged 37 years.

WALTER YOUNG
1780 approx birth.
[Possible baptism 1782 Jan 16th at Nisbet, Crailing, son of John Young & Bella Fiddes.  No proof this is the right Walter Young, but links with evidence of lives of Elizabeth Young & Catherine Tinline and her family.]
1809 approx birth of supposed illegitmate daughter Elizabeth Young at Maxton to Catherine Tinline - per Death cert of Elizabeth Weaver, nee Young at Jedburgh in 1873.
1810 marriage March 6th Walter Young private Teacher in Swinton & Margaret Forman both of this parish gave in their Names for Proclamation in Order to Marriage.
1812 November 4th Then was baptised James first lawful Son of Mr Walter Young private Teacher in Swinton and Margt Foreman his spouse (born 21st ult)
1814 baptism 23 Feb daur Isabella at Swinton
1815 baptism 1 Apr son John at Swinton
1817 March  7th Lucy Anne, daughter of Walter Young, Teacher, Allanton, and of Margaret Foreman, his wife, was born on 7th March 1817 and baptised on the 28th current, by the Minister of the Parish.  Witnesses Robert Foreman & John Dickson.  Lucy Anne was named after Lady Lucy Anne Preston of Bath, who married Thomas Boswall of Blackadder on 21st Jan 1817.
1817 July 2nd Margaret daur of Walter Young Teacher Allanton, and Margaret Forman his wife was born on the 2 July 1818 and baptised on the 4 August following by the Minister of the Parish. Witnesses John Watt & John Middlemiss.
1819 Birth of daur Mary at Allanton.
1819 Marriage of Catherine Tinline (mother of his possible first child) to Gideon Brockie at Melrose.
1820 Applied for certificate of poverty from Edrom Kirk Session.  27th Oct 1820. Present The Revd John Hastie Moderator, Peter Johnston & William Allen, Elders, George Peacock, Clerk.  3 paragraph. Appeared Walter Young late schoolmaster at Allanton craving a certificate from this Kirk Session to enable him in forma pauperis to prosecute before the Court of Session for the recovery of debts due to him. On account of some informality in the intimation required to be given to the adverse party - the Session delayed giving the Certificate applied for, but took Young's declaration as to his circumstances, and adjourned their meeting till 8th November to give time to the petitioner to comply with the forms prescribed by the act of Sederunt respecting the Poor's Roll.   At Edrom 8th Nov 1820. The meeting of Session adjourned from the 27th Oct was held when there was no attendance but by the Revd John Hastie Moderator Robert Mason Elder and George Peacock Clerk.  Burton sheriff Officer produced certificates that he had given intimation of this meeting of Session to the parties complained against. And no appearance being made by them nor by any person for them, to give reason, why the certificate of poverty should not be granted. The certificate was made out accordingly and signed by the Minister and Mr Mason the only Elder present and sent to Walter Young the Petitioner. 
1820-1821 received cash advances from Edrom Kirk. No evidence he repaid them.  CH2/1133/5/79 Kirk Session Accounts - Nov 5th 1820 Paid Walter Young late Teacher at Allanton at different times since Whitsunday last, as per petty cash book £13 13s.  Nov 14th Paid Walter Young to be repaid £1 1s.  Dec 1st Advanced to Walter Young £2 2s.  Dec 29th Advanced to Walter Young £1 1s.  Jan 15th 1821 Adv to Walter Young £1 1s.  Feb 12th Adv to Walter Young till April £2 2s.  Mar 29th Adv to Walter Young £1 1s.   No more - checked up to 1825.

1820 6th November "A vile and troublesome business about Young, late schoolmaster of Allanton."  no other explanations or references. This was the day after the kirk session accounts show the first petty cash book entry.

1824 Coldstream B Oct 6, C Oct 30 1824 Agnes lawful daur of Walter Young Teacher Newtown by Margt Foreman.  Also Death OPR. Nov 26th 1824 Agnes Young (No mortcloth).
1825 Pigot's Directory for Southern Scotland Coldstream Schools:  Alexander Jaffrey, John Wallace, Walter Young.

1828 marriage of his first daughter Elizabeth Young to James Weaver at Crailing.
In 1832 his daur Lucy Anne Young made a sampler with her name and age.

1873 schoolmaster deceased per D cert of illegitimate daur Elizabeth.
