I.L.M. of my mother & father AGNES JOHNSTON died 13th Dec. 1950, aged 74 years.  JAMES JOHNSTON, killed in action in France, 13th April 1917 aged 37 years and their daughter MARGARET, beloved wife of JAMES DAVISON, died at Roker, Sunderland, 5th October 1996 aged 88 years.

Military record

Private James Johnston, 7/8th Battalion, Kings Own Scottish Borderers. He was killed in action on 9th April 1917 during the Battle of Arras, aged 37. He was the son of Mr and  Mrs T. Johnston of Cornhill and the husband of Agnes Johnston of Station Cottages, Cornhill and is buried in Feuchy Chapel British Cemetery, Wancourt, France. He fell in the attack on Feuchy Redoubt where  the Battalion suffered 125 casualties and captured 16 artillery pieces when the position was stormed. Before the War he had been employed  for 20 years as a Railway Signalman at Coldstream Station. He was a regular Church goer and left his widow and two children. Hiis two brothers were still serving.
