ANDREW LEITH

  1. abt 1780 in Durham (1841 Census, unable to find birth record)
  2. 20 Jun 1850 in Cornhill (death certificate; cause of death, palsy)
  3. abt 1801 to Christian Fair (unable to find marriage record, but daughter Alice born in 1802)

parents; James Leith

In the 1841 Census both Andrew and Christian are stated as being 60 years old which makes their birthdates about 1780, but the gravestone reading states Andrew was 72 years old as is  statedon  the death certificate, which  makes his birthdate   about 1778.

Andrew was a cartwright.

Staying with them is Jane aged 20 years (? Daughter) and William aged 5 years old (grandson). William was my great grandfather.

Death Certificate states date of death 20 Jun 1850 age 72 years at Cornhill. Occupation: Joiner. Alice Leith was present at death. Cause of death was palsy.

CHRISTIAN FAIR

  1. 28 Feb 1782

bap 3 Mar 1782 Coldingham, Berwick

  1. 8 Sep 1844 Cornhill aged 71 years
  2. Andrew Leith abt 1801

Parents.? Peter Fair and Jean France

If Christian was 71 when she died in 1844 her birthdate would have been in 1773. In the 1841 Census her age is stated as 60 which would make her birthdate about 1780. There was a Christian Fair born 3rd March 1782 to a Peter Fair and Jean France, but I have no proof that that is the same Christian Fair. If it is, then Christian would have been 62 when she died.

Christian Fair’s name is included on birth records of  the children.

Andrew and Christian had about 5 children.

Alice (1802-1885), James (1806-1898), William (1808-1829), Elizabeth (1810-1821) and Jean (1813-)

ALICE (1802-1885)

  1. about 1802 in Cornhill (unable to find birth record).
  2. 2 Dec 1885 age 83 years at Edinburgh Lady Yesters, Midlothian, Scotland.
  3. I do not think that Alice ever married.
